Yesterday, I saw this post on facebook titled "Why I Got Rid of My Wardrobe." That's just the kind of thing I would click on! My wardrobe consists mainly of yoga pants (I actually read the article while WEARING yoga pants...), workout clothes, and a random assortment of clothes that volunteers have left me over the last 5 years. :) In fact, this is what my closet looked like a few hours ago...
The main premise of the article I read is to get rid of most of your clothes and create a "wardrobe capsule." The woman behind this idea says women should maintain a 37 piece wardrobe: 15 tops, 9 bottoms, 9 pairs of shoes, 2 dresses, and 2 jackets. If you choose versatile items that you really like, you should be able to make combination after combination...and get rid of some of those yoga pants. :)
Well today, I decided I would tackle my wardrobe (after teaching Writing Club for 2 hours and writing a youth girls' Bible study in another language...lest you think I spent the whole day in my closet...) ;) I had a hard time getting rid of stuff - Billie Anne gave me that!! Mandy left me that!! That one goes all the way back to Trish in 2011!! But really...do I NEED another Auburn hoodie when we all know when it's cold I will wear my orange Adidas one?? And how many striped shirts does a person really need??!! Once I got a few things in my give away pile, it got easier, and before long my closet looked like this.
Next, I quickly grabbed 3 tops, 3 bottoms, a dress, and 3 pairs of shoes. With these 10 items, I could easily make 12 different outfits, and that's just 10 of my 37 items! (At this point, I'm supposed to change into every single one of those 12 outfits, take pictures, and show you here, but by this point, I was a little tired...
Seriously, though, it feels great to get rid of some (ok, a lot) of things I don't wear, and to be ready for the upcoming 2nd term of school and winter. But hey, if you see a pic of me in the next few months and I'm wearing yoga pants...don't judge. :)
