Cason's Birth Story

Much thanks to my sweet husband for posting on my blog in my absence…  Though there were a couple of typos that I had fun pointing out to him, he did well, don’t ya think?!

I wanted to share Cason’s “birth story” with you. Though I am a very detailed person, I will attempt to not be graphic!

We went in at 6am to be induced and I was actually hooked up to pitocin and going by 6:30am! We did quickly discover the movies on demand (it was called Fool’s Gold, Blu…) and for about 3 hours I had contractions every 4 minutes apart or so, but with not much pain. I was dilated to a 5 so we were just hanging out waiting for things to happen! They asked if I wanted an epidural, but I wasn’t in a lot of pain so I said no. They told me that they had c-sections lined up all day so they didn’t want me to miss getting an epidural but I assured them I’d be fine…

Then the doctor came in around 9:30 and I was still a 5, so she said they could break my water and things would probably go a little faster. She asked, “Do you want the epidural before we break your water?” “Nah…I’m good for a little while longer…” I mean, Cool Runnings was on now! This was the life!! I kid you not, about 2 minutes after they broke my water I wanted the epidural! Contractions were coming 2-3 minutes apart and were SO intense. I made it 30 minutes and finally told Blu to go tell the nurse I need an epidural NOW! He came back with the news that it would be 30-40 minutes before they could do it. I quickly calculated that that would be about 15 more contractions, so me, Blu, and the Jamaican bobsled team made it through them together! I then told Blu “It has to have been 30 minutes…I have to have something for the pain…” He comes back with a sad look on his face to inform me that the nurse said it will still be another 30 minutes. I inform him that I am NOT going to make it another 30 minutes…the baby will be here by then.

So then the doctor comes back and I was only dilated to a 7 but they said it was going very fast and they ran to get the anaesthesiologist. He told me it was too late for an epidural but that I could get a spinal block and have immediate relief in 3 minutes. He proceeds to tell me that I could die or be paralyzed from it, and I quickly tell him “great, just do it fast.” So I get the spinal block and they tell me that it should be 3 minutes until I feel pain relief. But all I feel is pain in my back and my lower stomach…I thought I was dying!! My doctor rushes in and starts putting on scrubs and I tell her how bad my stomach hurts. It turns out that I was a 10, and it was time to push—I got the spinal block about 10 minutes before I delivered Cason Mark!!

Blu gave you all the stats—born at 11:18am, 7lbs 10 oz, 20 inches. He looks just like Caedmon did as a baby! It took 11 hours for me to get feeling back in my legs/lower back…I could finally get up at 10pm that night so that was crazy!! Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts on Monday! Though the labor was intense, it really went well and we are thankful for another beautiful, healthy, baby boy! Happy Thanksgiving!

A Baby Boy!

To the woman [God] said,
"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will give birth to children."

I've never thought about it before today, but I wonder what birthing a child would have ben like before the Fall. It had to have been something that was more enjoyable than our current method. If you've never taken the time to sit down and think about what all goes on during childbirth, then do yourself a favor... and don't.

Greetings everyone! This is Blu! For one brief day Darbi has relinquished total control of her blog to none other than me. She's never done that before, and I don't know if it's the fact that she trusts me completely, or that she's all drugged up and can't think straight. So here's the story:

We have a baby boy! His name? Cason Mark Tidwell. Weight? 7 lbs 10 oz. Length? 20 inches. I'm not sure about the hair and the eye color... I guess you'll just have wait to get that info. :)

We went into the hospital at 6:00 AM. Darbi was hooked up to an IV around 6:30 and we were ready to go! It didn't take long for two things to happen. 1) the contractions started. 2) we found out that we had access to FREE movies on demand. Since Darbi was the one in pain, I let her choose the movie to watch (although I was pulling for Bourne Ultimatum). Her choice? Matthew McConaughey. I'm not even sure what the movie was called, but he swam around a lot with no shirt, and for an hour and a half Darbi didn't complain once about the contractions.

Then the movie ended and the nurse came in and broke her water. Shortly thereafter Darbi began asking for an epidural. But the epidurist was all tied up and it was another hour before he showed up. By then she was too far along for an epidural, so they went with a spinal block thing. It didn't take long before Cason joined us in the world! He looks just like Caedmon from when he was a baby.

Ok, I'm done typing. I know you just want to see pics anyways. Here they are!

Oh! This last picture reminds me. I'm one of those that realizes the truth that no one will say out lout. Babies are not that pretty, or cute, or adorable. So even though I know that Darbi would appreciate a lot of oohs and aahs over our newest addition... you and I know the truth. :)

Pre-Baby!

Well, in a few hours, I will be up at the hospital, giving birth to our 3rd child. I'm feeling all sentimental lately about my kids growing up and our family changing! So I wanted to post some ADORABLE pre-baby pics of them before Baby Cason's arrival hits them tomorrow! Enjoy!!! More posts to come soon!!!
I promised a pic of Blu's ordination service--here is Blu's brother Shade and his wife Caity, Blu's parents, and then my parents!

Wow...

A fun day at Rugrat Holler! (Grandparents house!)

Guesses anyone??

So...the big news is that we're inducing on Monday, the 24th, if Cason doesn't show up before then!! I'm hoping he does come before then, although I came down with a cold yesterday so I'm really not feeling all that great.

So in a sad attempt to receive some blog comments throughout the day, let's have a guessing game! Can you guess the date, weight, and length of baby Cason? To give you some background, Caedmon was born at 41 weeks and weighed 7lbs, 1oz and was 20.5 inches. Cambree was born at 37 weeks and was 5lbs, 14oz and was 18.5 inches!

Ok I'll start and PLEASE someone leave me a comment with your guess!!! Humor me here!!

My guess is November 22nd...(because 22 is my favorite #, even though it'll be the 45th anniversary of the JFK assassination!), and I'm guessing Cason will be 7lbs, 9oz, 21 inches. :)

Still waiting...

Ok, I was REALLY convinced I would have had Cason by now!! I mean, Cambree was born at 37 weeks and it typically gets quicker with each one (so I was told...)! I am officially 39 weeks today (my ticker up there is a little off--I'm due next Sunday, the 23rd). I went to the doc this weekend after feeling some weird pains..they weren't like the contractions I remember with Cambree, but they were pains nevertheless! They didn't last though, and even though I am dilated to a 4 already, nothing else has happened!

Here's the kicker though--our doctor/hospital is 1 1/2 hours away! So our doctor said that even though it could still be another week, that being my 3rd child it could also go REALLY fast, and Blu needs to have some clean towels and an aspirator in the car! Whoa! Anybody have any cool stories to share of home/emergency deliveries?!

And by the way, I am SOOOO tired of being asked "When is that baby coming?!" or "you're still here?!" AND having people rub my belly!!! OK, I'm done complaining.... ;)

Another Birthday!

(No baby yet! The doctor on Friday said it should be "any day now!")

The Fall is a busy time in our family for birthdays! We are hoping that Cason will avoid Nov 11th, Cambree's birthday, as his arrival! Today was a very busy Sunday for us. Blu was ordained as a minister this evening at church, so we had lots of our family come in for that. (pics of that to come later!) So it was also a perfect day to celebrate Cambree's 2nd birthday!!

She had a Nemo birthday party and had a great time!

Happy Halloween!

Ok, bear with me as I post tons of pictures of my cute kids on Halloween :)
It was Western Day at Preschool, and this was Caedmon's "tough cowboy face!"

He was so cute and SO excited to go to school that day!

Caedmon dressed as Tigger for Halloween!

And Tigger has to have his sidekick, Pooh!

We trick-or-treated at Grandpa & Mama Dee's house! (my parents)

Then we went to Grandma's house (my dad's mom) and she had HUGE bags prepared for the kids!

Then, it was off to church for the Fall Festival!

This was the best part! Cambree is so fearless!

Caedmon is a little more cautious...

We had to dress up too!
