Field Trippin'!

If I said I had a love/hate relationship with field trips, I'd be lying. It's all hate! When we VERY first started talking about the idea of starting New Day, the first thing I thought about was, "Oh wow! We can take the kids on field trips some day!" We have had some great field trips at New Day over the years. Some of my field trip memories include:

Lochinvar 2012: the very first one - a camping trip when the kids were SO little, the only water source had to be DRIVEN to, there were skulls of animals all over the campground, and the bus literally collapsed as we got into it to leave...

Lusaka Dentist Trip 2013: Let's go camping again, they said. It'll be fun, they said. And it rained. And poured. And it was freezing for swimming, and the kids were terrified of the movie. And they went to the dentist. But the bus didn't die. #win

Livingstone Day Trip 2014: The trip from you know where. Had to get up at 5am, was terrified the whole time the kids were at the Falls, Blu got stopped for illegal parking and detained by the police forEVER, and...the bus broke down. Badly. We had to put half the group in a minibus, half sat by the side of the road and waited forEVER for another bus. Our bus driver seemed drunk and hit a wild animal, causing the bus to die in the middle of the road at night. We all tried to pile out before another truck came and hit us. Cambree didn't make it out of the bus. Diana fell. Nightmare.

Lusaka Activity Trip 2015: Horse farm, airplane rides, restaurant, swimming at a waterpark, etc. A great trip. Except we camped again. #why But the bus survived.

Livingstone Middle Kids 2016: Blu and I took the houseparents and some interns with the middle kids to a nice hotel in Livingstone for swimming, Victoria Falls, and a game drive. Cason was chased and scratched by a baboon. Aside from that, there are no horrible memories of this trip! #busmadeitagain

Livingstone Middle & Older Kids 2017: All the kids went with Blu, me, Wes, Laurie, and Nurse Carol to Livingstone for a trip to the Falls, crocodile farm, and lots of swimming. The kids got their own rooms and some the boys had to wear diapers so they didn't pee in the beds! It was a great trip. Until...the bus broke down 5 minutes out of Livingstone on the way home. All I remember is standing in the very hot sun for a very long time. Half of the group had to stay another night, while half of us waited for another bus to come and get us. #whyme

So you see, every year, when Blu (and the kids) say, "Let's go on a field trip," I say, "Do we REALLY need a field trip this year??" And Blu insists we do. :)

So today, we started off our "field trip season" with a day trip to Livingstone with the PreK, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 kids. Let the torture fun (and please no bus breakdowns) begin!
