Botswana - Sunday on the Road!

On Sunday morning, we had a breakfast at Chapa and got to visit with a mission group there from Connexion - a group of believers from all over the USA. Mom & Dad sat next to a man in his 40s and his mother...and began talking...only to find out that they were the preacher's family at FBC Bartlett, TX for 2 years in the 1970s!!! This man, somebody Miles, and I grew up in the same house!!! And met years later in Livingstone, Zambia - now THAT is crazy!

We got a late start (9am) to head to the Zambia/Botswana border. It is a little hectic when you are crossing with a vehicle - we had to have a police inspection and Interpol certificate done a couple of weeks ago, copies of registrations, passports, a letter certifying us to leave the country, etc. Thankfully, Wes had taken care of a lot of that for us a few weeks before, but it still took awhile! Then, we were all cleared to go and waited...and waited...for the ferry to arrive!

Sisi was highly doubtful that the minibus was actually going to get on a boat and cross a river, so I took this picture to prove it to her. :)

Ferry selfie!

Finally, at 12pm, we were through to Botswana and ready for 6 1/2 hours of driving!

We amused ourselves with Trivial Pursuit (guys vs. girls of course), and me reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer out loud!

At this point, we were highly doubtful there was actual wildlife on the side of the roads..

Until there was...

Botswana is so pretty!

We got into Francistown, Botswana past dark with no idea where our lodge was, but at that point, it didn't matter, because we were starving! Wimpy and Chicken Licken it was! Blu and I can be a little...cheap..so I had booked us this random lodge I found on expedia - pretty sure we were their first and only customers...ever! Honestly, though, the Road View Lodge was a great place to get in a quick swim and a good night's sleep before another day of driving!
