A Day in Darbi's Life

The single question I get asked the most is "What does a typical day look like for you?" OK, maybe that's the second most common question (the first being...what kind of wild animals do you see at New Day...that answer would be dogs, cats, cows, goats, chickens, rabbits...sorry no elephants here!) :) I decided to take some time to give you a glimpse into my day today. This fascinating blog series will include "A Day in Blu's Life," "A Day in Laurie's Life," and "A Day in Wes's Life." I know, you can hardly wait!

Every day is completely different, but this was my Monday.

5:30am: Wake up and spend time with Jesus (this includes my prayer journal, reading through the Bible chronologically, and memorizing Phillippians)

6:00am - 7:30am: Breakfast (cereal and apples with peanut butter!), help the kids get ready in their school uniforms, get Blu off to work

7:30am - 8:30am: My house is QUIET...time for a workout (Hip Hop Abs or P90x) and a much-needed shower!

8:30am - 9:30am: New Day office time - Today this consisted of writing 18 thank you notes, recording donations, recording receipts from money spent over the weekend, making copies of work lists and the May calendar, and writing a blog!

9:30am - 10:30am: Get birthday party gifts ready for parties coming later this week. Make 2 loaves of banana bread for breakfast tomorrow, one pan of peanut butter brownies for kids after school special dessert (today was their first day back). Mid-morning cappuccino snack!

10:30am - 12:00pm: Prayer time and Team Meeting with Wes & Laurie

12:00pm: Facebook/email break!

12:30pm: Kids are back from school! Time for some peanut butter & jelly sandwiches!

*Disclaimer* At this point the day got a little crazy with the news of Misheck needing to be admitted into the hospital, so my typical day didn't turn out so typical. Please pray for Misheck as he has some sort of infection and is getting iv antibiotics!

1:00pm - 2:00pm: Homework with the kids, including our USA Math books we are using to supplement their Zambian school experience

2:00pm - 3:00pm: I taught Library Time to the 22 New Day kids - this consisted of 20 minutes free reading time, 20 minutes of me reading to them, and a 20 minute learning video (Little Bear!)

3:00pm - 3:45pm: Grade 12 Math tutorial class with our staffers Abby, Hildah, Liz, & Mulenga. We are currently graphing inequalities! (cancelled due to Elizabeth & Mulenga being at hospital with Misheck

3:00pm - 3:45pm: Head to the New Day kitchen to teach Kalenga how to make baked oatmeal for tomorrow's breakfast!

4:00pm - 5:30pm: Monthly staff meeting with all of our full-time staff at New Day (cancelled due to Joyce, Liz, & Mulenga being at hospital with Misheck!

4:00pm - 5:30pm: Dry and fold clothes that were hanging on the line, make homemade tortillas for supper!, edit this blog... :)

5:30pm - 7:00pm: Supper (chicken fajitas in case you were wondering!), bathtime, reading/devotion time with kids, bedtime for kids!

7:00pm - 9:00pm: Write my daily email back home to our family, time with the hubby, watch an episode of NCIS, HOT bath!

9:30pm: In bed, read a book on my Kindle before going to sleep at 10:00pm!

And that, my friends, was today in Darbi's life. Like I said, every day is different, but that was today!
