Panama Day 1!

It’s been 14 months since Blu and I have gotten away together, by ourselves.  In that 14 months, we have told our children and our closest friends we were moving, planned a huge staff retreat in another country, packed up our lives (physically, emotionally, etc) as we moved from Zambia to the USA, remodeled our house, took over the family business, started construction and now midway through my parents’ house, adjusted to a new church and a new life for our kids, survived 5 different sports seasons with our kids, and planned a massive surprise birthday party.  It is time for a break....to reflect on the last 14 months, to share dreams of the next 14 months, to take a lot of naps, and to eat a lot of good food.  Vacation starts NOW!

This has actually been an interesting trip as far as planning goes.  We had tickets to a different country, hotel booked, activities planned, but we started feeling iffy about that trip.  The money we would spend, we just weren't sure it was the right time.  So we looked into canceling, but we were locked in due to the types of tickets we had purchased.  TWO DAYS LATER, the airline emailed us and let us know our flight had been cancelled!  They could reroute us through another way, costing more time, OR they would give us the one-time option to cancel with no penalties!!  The hotel did the same!  So we were back to square one, knowing we needed to get away, but not wanting to spend a lot of money.

Blu's older brother Cloud spends about one week a month working in Panama, and Blu has always wanted to see the Canal, so we started looking into tickets.  We were surprised at how cheap they were, and we got our 5 star hotel for FREE using British Air miles!  Unfortunately, Cloud wasn't able to join us due to Bmaw's surprise party (he couldn't swing both, so we told him he better choose Bmaw's party!), but we decided to come on down to Panama City, Panama, and see the sights!

We flew Spirit Airlines - that giant yellow thing in the sky might not be the sun, it might be our airplane!
Next stop, Panama!
Blu on any airplane he's ever been on!

Oh don't worry about our kids  - Grandpa & Mama Dee are spending the week and Caedmon will school them all in Poker!

Blu in ANY airport he visits....
And of course, some Cribbage!
No idea what we were flying over, but it looked awesome!

After a layover in Orlando, we made it to Panama and got our rental car.  Now just to figure out all the signs in Spanish,  our map in Spanish, and the one way streets to find our hotel!
An hour or so later, we still hadn't found our hotel, but we were starving, so we stopped at a little street cafe and got some food!

I ordered a "Pepito Con Pollo" - for future reference, that is a giant hot dog bun filled with fried chicken, potato chips, cheese, tomatoes, ketchup, mayonnaise, etc.  Strangest meal ever!
Sometimes you just have to laugh!

And about another hour later, we finally found our room!!  We were so excited to walk into the huge, air-conditioned room and see this giant window looking out over downtown Panama City!

The skyline from our hotel room!
