It's Year #15 of my Book of the Year posts! This year, I read 40 books (6 within the last 3 weeks!). I spent a lot of time reading memoirs and really enjoyed what I read and learned this year. Here is a look at my faves!
Best Fiction Book of the Year - A Man Called One
I feel like this book needs a trigger warning. It deals heavily with grief and suicide, and I did not see it coming, and it was heavy! That being said, it was beautiful. I read it out loud to Blu, and he loved it too. This was made into a movie with Tom Hanks called A Man Called Otto, which I haven't seen yet, but the book was phenomenal!
Best Memoir - All My Knotted-Up Life
I read so many memoirs this year, so this was tough! Jill Duggar's memoir was outstanding, and I really liked Prince Harry's memoir and also thought Britney Spears' book was a heartbreaking read. But nothing got me like Beth Moore's personal story. I enjoyed stepping behind the pages of Breaking Free and the other many Bible studies she has done and finding out who she really is and what really happened in her life.
An Unexpected Gem - Demon Copperhead
I'm a huge Barbara Kingsolver fan (The Poisonwood Bible is my favorite book ever!), so I don't know why I'm so surprised that this book was incredible! It's a heavy story of a little boy who struggles through life, and I couldn't put it down.
Admittedly, my reads are a little heavy these days - mostly personal stories of overcoming sorrow along with some psychological thrillers and kidnapping stories thrown in! That may not be your cup of tea when it comes to reading, but if it is, be sure to check out my favorites from 2023! Happy reading in 2024!
