Sunny Ft Lauderdale 2022!

Someone made the comment recently that we take a lot of vacations.  Of course, that makes me feel like I need to provide clarification that 1) Yes, we do travel a lot, but 2) Not all travel can be considered a vacation. ;) For instance, a week at "Beach Camp" sounds like a vacation, and of course it's great to be at the beach, but preparing 4 sermons and preaching them in 4 days isn't REALLY a vacation. ;) But honestly, I really don't have to provide clarification or justification...we work hard, we save money, and we play hard.

That being said, when we realized we had to pick up Cambree in Florida on August 4th, and after the CRAZY summer we had (mission trips, camps, work, etc.), we JUMPED at the chance to go a few days early and enjoy some time in sunny Florida!

These two are basically the same person, different gender!

I might have had 3 creme brûlées on this trip - it's my fave vacay dessert!

Date night (and a lemon slice) :)

If you ever want to see Blu get upset, put him in the sun with no shade for a long period of time.  He doesn't really like the heat unless he's working in it or it's serving some purpose...just sitting in the heat - nope!

Once we picked up Cambree, we had a great day with her hearing all about India and dressing up for a fancy dinner!

I love this pic!

This one too! Walking down to Casablanca Cafe for dinner!

Pre-supper photo shoot with Cambree as our photog!

Swimming pool time with my girl!

Blu likes to play where the sharks live...

It was HOT!

There they go!  (Cam didn't stay long...we feel the same about sharks...)

Catching up with grandparents on the phone!

This was our view the entire week!

Some Cuban sandwiches after shopping!

She got tired :)

This looks like it's not real, but this was the view from our hotel window!

Pickup at Teen Missions in Merritt Island!

A nighttime walk on the beach!

So pretty!

After street tacos, we walked down to a cafe for more creme brûlée!

My handsome guy on our balcony

Sunset!

I am addicted to street tacos!

We had the best time at this old cinema called Gateway Cinema watching Where the Crawdads Sing! So far that's twice this summer that we found an old cinema and watched a movie there - fun!

Waiting for our valet - we fancy!

Pool time after a morning at the beach!

He could spend hours and hours in the ocean...

That's our room up there!

:)

I ate this meal TWICE - phyllo baked brie with fresh fruit, candied walnuts, raspberry compote, and French bread!

We LOVED this cafe - this was the view on the A1A Beachfront Avenue!

So we booked this hotel through a flight + hotel package on Expedia, and it was NICE!  And something happened in their system causing them to give our room away, so we got a FREE UPGRADE to a full ocean view suite!!

We spent a ton of time in the hot tub!

Coconut shrimp = yes please.

This view!!

I'm a sucker for virgin Pina coladas!

Blu's a sucker for cherry cokes!

Our fancy room!

So we flew SUPER early in the morning and got to Ft Lauderdale at like 10am, so we picked up our rental car (thank you Turo app!!) and headed to Miami and Miami Beach to explore some of Southern Florida before we could check into our hotel!

Cape Florida Lighthouse on Key Biscayne (which is closed ONLY on Tuesdays...go figure!)

I loved this boardwalk!

Driving through Little Havana in Miami was fun!!  Blu wanted to get out and walk...I was like, "Nah...."

Las Olas Blvd in Ft Lauderdale

A creme brûlée cappuccino at Java & Jam

That 3am morning wakeup though....

Ok, this place on I-20...we drive through there ALL the time and have never stopped.  The Smokestack Restaurant - SO good and so much history in that little town!

Ready for a day with my Cam!

That first hug..

Back to school shopping!

Beach ready!

Do you think Blu would buy a pair of pink shorts?  Nope.

Time for a phone upgrade her first day back!

Ready for supper (guess where?? ;)

Blu & Cam took our hotel bikes and biked to Starbucks!

More hot tub time!

It was a GREAT trip.  We had fun, we RESTED, and it truly felt like a vacation.  And at the end of it, we finally got our Cam back!
