A Day in Rome

Our day in Rome was....eventful!  The port is about 1 1/2 hours from the City Center of Rome, so we opted for a train ride into the city.  Right when we got to the city, it started POURING.  There were people everywhere - I mean everywhere!  All of Rome felt like being at Disney World in the busiest season in the cold rain!  (Several people have noted that our pics didn't seem like there were many people, but that is the use of my "clean up" feature to remove people in our photos on my iPhone!). I'm glad we can say we've been to Rome and seen the major sites, but overall....Rome was not our place!

Ancient ruins near the Colosseum

The Colosseum was an amazing sight!

In case you were wondering, an earthquake in the 1500s destroyed half of the building!

So much rain!  (At this point, we needed to be on the Metro in 10 minutes to catch our train back to the port!

So. Much. Rain.

Ancient ruins

The Colosseum in the distance - I tried to picture this in 30 AD.

More ruins

A quick stop for a hot chocolate and bathroom!

Trevi Fountain - there were lines and lines of people lined up to toss coins into the fountain!

I LOVED the narrow streets of Europe!

So satisfying!

A mirror mask!

Margherita pizza!

Angie's Pizza in Rome

The Spanish Steps

So cool!

We were at Vatican City and got to see the Pope come out and speak for Angelus on Sunday at 12pm!

He comes to the window every Sunday and gives a 10 minute blessing to the people gathered below.

Blu was SOOOO excited!

He could spend hours and hours in the old churches and cathedrals!

St. Peter's Basilica

I really loved seeing all of the Nativity scenes around

Vatican City (with St. Peter's Basilica Dome behind him)

Jet lag on the train

I loved getting to see the seaside from the train!

European trains are awesome!

My rebel husband...

The train station at Civitavecchia

St. Peter's Basilica

So. Many. People.  And my Metro card wouldn't work once Blu was already through!

So. Many. People.

Vatican City

I loved the old roads of Rome!

The actual people situation at Trevi Fountain!

Waiting for the train

Trying to get into the Vatican

We survived the day!
