We slept in on Day 2 and didn't leave our room until 11am. We loaded back up our rental van and headed to Brooklyn!
I gave Cason my phone and told him to take pictures so I could help Blu navigate to where we were going! |
The cemeteries were just an incredible sight! |
Brooklyn certainly wasn't fancy... ;) |
Going over Brooklyn Bridge! |
A random FDNY truck that Cason liked! |
Another random bridge! Maybe Brooklyn? |
We finally found our parking garage (we reserved a spot online!) and walked in the FREEZING COLD WIND to the Statue Cruises terminal! After going through massive security, we got on the ferry and promptly bought hot dogs for lunch! |
We see it! We see it! |
Either Manhattan or Brooklyn Bridge |
We opted for the "Crown Access" tickets to the Statue of Liberty. They are only about $10 more, but they sell a limited amount and they have to be reserved 3 months in advance! It was quite the climb up this tiny staircase! |
But an awesome view looking out through the crown! There was literally just enough space for our family of 5, plus 2 security guards (one on either side) watching us! |
That's her arm from the crown view! |
Looking down and seeing her shadow was so awesome! |
Crazy to think of where the Twin Towers used to be! |
Once we got off the cruise, we walked several blocks to my cousin's apartment, passing some cool sights along the way, like the New York Stock Exchange! |
And the Federal Building! |
My cousin Kaysi (who works with Bank of America) moved to NYC in April, so we stopped by for a chat and a great sunset view! |
Her building was GORGEOUS! This was the lounge on the rooftop! |
We then headed to the 9/11 Memorial Museum, but we were starving, so Caedmon said, "Let's go in that pizza place!" |
Little did we know, Joe's Pizza is one of the most famous pizza places in New York, being featured on the Spiderman movie and by tons of celebrities! It was the best pizza I've ever had! |
More silliness along the way as we walked! |
Freedom Tower - what they built in place of the World Trade Center. It's beautiful! |
We only had about an hour in the museum. Blu and I could have stayed longer, but it was emotionally enough for our kids. It is an intense place - so incredibly well done. |
This display is a watercolor drawing for every person who lost their lives - done by New Yorkers trying to recall the color of the sky that day. Wow. |
You could pick up phones and listen to the victims' last phone calls home, or their voicemails of people trying to find them. It was intense. |
The last piece of rubble, signed by firefighters and rescue workers. |
One of the two memorial pools...this was being built when we were there in 2008. The name of every victim from each tower is engraved around the pool. |
Fitting that we would see a couple of NYPD on the walk back to our car! |
We came, we saw, we conquered, and then we drove back to the airport to turn in our rental car and catch our flight to Paris!
I think this was in London....we had about an hour here. |
In Paris..recollecting our luggage to recheck in! |
On the flight from Paris to Abu Dhabi...Etihad Airways is SO nice....a great entertainment system and tons of leg room! |
And a few prayers to Allah.... |
SO. Tired. I got some kind of allergic reaction and broke out in large red spots all over my body! They itched so bad! |
Terminals at the Abu Dhabi airport! |
The boys were dead! We found a cafe and ordered breakfast..because who knew what time it was but breakfast always sounds good, right??? |
Cambree was happy to find a McDonalds! One more flight to go until we reach South Africa! |
