Sadly, some people were too young (or too old) to go on the field trip today! (As we pulled out, 3 or 4 of the younger kids were screaming their heads off!!
Here we go! Aren't they cute.... ;)
They were SOOOO excited!
We were too...
It was a sad trip to Choma, as we had Mama Zelly with us, who was heading to Lusaka to see her daughter who was very sick. While we were on the bus, she got the call that her daughter had passed away. So sad. So we got Mama Zelly on a bus to Lusaka, and then we stopped for gas and snacks!
Chipego loved his milkshake drink!
Justin is just so LITTLE!
Miraculously, these little creatures did not have to stop ONCE to use the bathroom on the way or on the way back!! So we made it to the crocodile farm in Livingstone in good time! It was funny to see the kids' observations of the drive. They loved the BIG trucks and buses, and they absolutely loved the cell phone towers! They called them "networks" and repeatedly screamed out, "I see two networks!!"
I guess we didn't really think through taking kids ages 3-7 to a crocodile farm...it was a little terrifying for Agness!
Until she got to the swing..
Check out that black mamba showing off for us! Yuck!
Uncle Blu had to show us how it was done!
Chipego was so brave!
Creepy!!!
I was thinking about how close we were to the crocodiles, how unsteady the planks under us seemed, and how I could save myself and at least 2 of the kids if the planks broke during most of the croc farm visit..
Stanley stayed pretty close to me!
Edna wasn't scared of them at ALL!
Emma, on the other hand...
But she was fine once she got to the swings too!
This picture was taken right before I start yelling at everyone to not let their arms/hands/fingers hang over the edge! #safetypatrol #ronwinsmanjr
It was neat to see some of the personalities of the kids! Luumuno is VERY smart and is a natural leader, and he SO wanted to be brave and hold this crocodile first, but he just couldn't quite do it!
He loved looking at them from afar though!
Their first merry-go-round! Nobody threw up! Success!
From the croc farm, we headed to Zig Zag Cafe for some pizza (and because they have a playground!) Blessing is pretty much the silliest girl ever!
David (Mulenga's son) really surprised me on this trip! Though he talked NON.STOP he was really a caretaker and wanted all of the little ones to be ok, to be warm enough, or cool enough, to not be afraid, to eat their food, etc. I was very surprised to see this side of him!
Edna looking adorable!
Justin definitely seemed like the youngest of the group, but he had a blast! (Except for that time at the croc farm he said, "I want to go home..."
Poor Stanley wasn't feeling well during the trip (fever/sore throat), but he hung in there! And hung out with me and Blu a lot!
There's Terry in a tree!
We were going to drive through the game park if we had time, but we didn't realize the kids would be SO obsessed with helicopters! So we decided to drive out to the helicopter tourism launching site and see if we could see one up close!
The people were so sweet and let us climb into one even though we didn't have reservations! Chipego was so proud (in Blu's sunglasses!)
Emma looks just a LITTLE excited!
Finally! A picture of Emmanuel! He was funny to watch too - he is TINY due to malnutrition, but he is as old (7) as the bigger boys, and he wants to make sure you know that he's NOT a little boy and can do what the big boys can do!
This was an unexpected treat for sure!
Luumuno loved this so much!
There's Prince!
We couldn't leave Livingstone without stopping for gelato! Because, I mean seriously, this is what I came for.. ;)
I think it's what Blessing came for too...
Prince
It was an uneventful trip home (except for the 1,300 times the kids yelled "Uncle Blu!" and the 1,301 times I told them to sit down and put their seat belts back on!!! Most of them slept most of the way back, and we got home JUST before dark. Another field trip is in the books, and I know I will look back on this one and smile!
Next trip: 2 weeks from today with the middle and older kids! #camping #why
